The Flame That Burned Twice

Long, long ago, before the world had taken shape, two spirits came into being. One was called Sol, and he was the light, while the other was Noctra, and she was dark. They roamed through the empty sky, always close to one another but never actually coming together. He gave fire to the stars. She brought dreams to the dark. They were diametrically opposed. A perfect equipoise. But they wanted more.

One day, Sol reached across the gap that separated them. He touched Noctra’s hand. Just once. Everything altered. The stars shook. The night cried. And the world split in two. The two gods were angry. They said, “If you want to be together, then suffer.

So they were reborn again and again. In every lifetime, they met and then lost each other. Sometimes lovers and sometimes enemies. Sometimes, two complete strangers just feel an inexplicable pull towards one another.

What about this life?

He was handed a lighter outside a pub. He lit his cigarette and looked at her.

"Have we met?" He asked.

She exhaled. "Every time."

And just like that, the curse reset—love, hate, balance... begins again.
